Warming Green Soup To Sip On All Day!

According to Ayurveda and traditional wisdom, our digestion slows down in colder

months, and consuming cold, raw foods can strain our internal “digestive fire.” This makes winter the perfect time to shift to warmer, more grounding foods.

Instead of reaching for a chilled green smoothie, try a warming green soup. Packed with nutrient-dense, alkaline ingredients, this soup provides the same health benefits as your smoothie but in a way that’s more suitable for the season.

Health Benefits of Warming, Alkaline Foods

  1. Boosts Digestion: Warm soups are easier on the digestive system, allowing your body to absorb nutrients more efficiently.

  2. Supports Alkalinity: Leafy greens and vegetables help maintain an alkaline

balance, reducing inflammation, and supporting overall health.

  3. Improves Immunity: Ingredients like broccoli, kale, and garlic are packed with vitamins A, C, and antioxidants to strengthen your immune system.

  4. Enhances Detoxification: Warm liquids and greens stimulate the liver, aiding in detoxification.

  5. Promotes Warmth and Comfort: A hot bowl of soup is not just nourishing; it provides a grounding, soothing experience that winter calls for.

Adjusting your diet to reflect the seasons, you’ll stay balanced, nourished, and in tune with your body’s natural rhythms. This winter, trade your smoothies for a steaming bowl of green soup and enjoy the benefits of warmth and wellness.

Last fall, I attended a lovely and very impactful Ayurvedic Fall Cleanse workshop with Kelley Gardner (she holds them virtually every Spring and Fall) and started making this soup weekly. I drink it like coffee or tea - starting early every morning - until the batch is finished.

Kelley is one of the most knowledgeable, outstanding teachers I have had the pleasure to know. And she's local!

Bieler Soup

1⁄2 bunch of parsley (I like to use cilantro)

A handful of green beans chopped

1 zucchini chopped

2 stalks celery chopped

Pinch mineral salt

1 tsp ghee (optional)

Steam or boil the veggies (minus the parsley/cilantro) until they are bright green and crisp-tender. Let the cooked veggies cool before adding to the blender. Blend veggies along with the parsley/cilantro and water to create the consistency you like. Add lemon/lime juice or salt to taste.

I plan to attend every one of Kelley Gardner's Ayurvedic Cleanses. I value the time to internalize my focus and energy. It's an unforgettable opportunity to put new life-affirming habits into practice!
